Someone at work presented my work as theirs. What now?
Someone at work presented my work as theirs. What now?
Correct the record in the place the claim was made, with the work named and your tone flat. Do it once, in writing if the room was public.
What may actually be happening
Sometimes it is theft. Sometimes it is a sloppy summary by someone who thinks 'the team' means them. The fix is similar: attach your name to the specific piece.
What you can do
Reply on the same thread. 'The draft I sent Tuesday is the one we used. Happy to walk through the sources.' Tell your manager the fact, not the novel. Keep the original file.
What not to do
Do not start with an accusation you cannot point to. Do not wait three months and then explode. Do not undermine the work itself just to prove a point.
Try this today
Save the message, the file, and the date. If a meeting is coming, ask to present the section you built. Credit is easier to keep in the room than to reclaim later.
